Description
2019 Westwood Syrah, Annadel Gap, Sonoma Valley
Once again showing the benefits of the cool-climate characteristics of the Annadel Gap Vineyard, the 2019 shows an incredible meaty, smoky, deep and concentrated style as well as blackberry, violets and white pepper. The tannins are ultra-fine with a full-bodied richness as well as a rare mix of power and grace.
Tasting Note
Vineyard
The Annadel Gap Vineyard is a special place. Our site is characterized by thick morning fog and strong afternoon winds. Alluvial, glacial, and sedimentary influences create a wide array of soil types. Ideal growing conditions, varied soils, and our minimal-impact farming methods yield precise, balanced fruit.
Winemaking
Our Syrah was hand-harvested at night, hand-sorted, then fermented in a closed-top, stainless steel tank. Averaging 18% whole clusters, it remained on skins for 19 days, then basket pressed and aged in French oak barrels for a total of 18 months
- approx. 65% new oak, 35% 1-2 years old oak.
92 Points | International Wine Report
The 2019 Syrah from Westwood offers up are lovely aromas of ripe raspberries, cherry, clove, black pepper, Provencal herbs, and a hint of vanilla bean. On the palate this has delicious flavors of muddled red berries, spice, and dried herbs. Give this some air for a few hours before enjoying, as it needs some time to open up. Showcasing a stunning dark ruby/purple, it delivers ample acidity and an earthy finish that lingers on. Enjoy over the next 7-10 years.
