Nestled in the shadow of the dormant stratovolcano Mount Daisen, Japanese whisky distiller Matsui utilises the region’s pure, crystalline water to produce award-winning spirits. One of the brand’s most popular expressions is the Kurayoshi, taking its name from the nearby city. Through 12 years of ageing in fine Japanese white oak barrels, the smooth, golden liquid acquires delicate tasting notes of vanilla, roasted nuts and raisins.
